Shalina Kajani Daly is a Kenyan born South Asian Canadian who immigrated to Canada with her family when she was in her teens. She has been running a boutique and a public relations firm in Vancouver for over sixteen years. Enjoying working in a diverse and multicultural milieu early in her career, she became involved in television broadcasting in the news production arena, and she brings this experience into her current consulting practice. Her husband, John L. Daly, has recently retired after a career as a reporter and newscaster with Global TV since 1980.
Shalina moved to the media sector as a research intern for BCTV. She then joined the regional television operations of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Canada’s national public broadcaster, as a researcher before moving to CKNW Radio, BC’s most significant private radio station. There, she worked with The Rafe Mair Show, then CKNW’s top-rated, open-mike talk show. Shalina has also worked for CKVU, now known as CITY-TV.
Following a successful 10-year track record in the media, Shalina Kajani launched SK Marketing & Promotions Inc. consultancy in 2002 to assist businesses and not-for-profit organizations to reach out to the news media and also to plan and coordinate public media and communications. Public relations, promotions, even branding, and marketing revolve around who you know—the million-dollar question—and what you know. Shalina’s firm brings to her clients a network of media connections—mainstream and ethnic—carefully cultivated over the past two decades centered on her home base in Vancouver, British Columbia and extended across Canada, the USA, Europe, and Asia. Her track record working in partnerships enables her to call on a wide range of media, design and marketing professionals to meet specific event requirements.
