World’s Best Freestyle Skaters Taking Part in First-Ever Online Competition

July 13, 2020

Surrey, B.C. The World Round-Up is a world class freestyle skateboard contest, held every year at the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair. Due to COVID-19, we decided to transform the contest into an online contest – the first of its kind!

Freestyle skateboarding is one of the oldest styles of skateboarding, originating in the 1960’s, and made popular by skater Rodney Mullen in the 80’s. His tricks and maneuvers revolutionized modern skateboarding. Freestyle skateboarding requires no ramps or obstacles, as skaters only need a smooth, flat surface.

For the first time in freestyle history, we will be hosting 110 skaters from 22 countries, who have submitted video entries over the past month.

Skaters will be evaluated on the creativity and complexity of their timed routines by a panel of international judges including Russ Howell, Kevin Harris, Per Canguru, Christian Heise, Denham Hill and Albert Kuncz.

Skaters are sorted into divisions including: Rookies (under 15), Women’s, Masters Am and Masters Pro (over the age of 40), Amateurs and Professionals.

The youngest skater competing is a 6-year-old from Japan. The oldest skater is a 60-year-old from Brazil.

The contest will be a live feed broadcast on the Braille Skateboarding Youtube channel which has over 4.9 million subscribers.

Pro freestyle skateboarder Mike Osterman will be co-hosting the live feed with guest commentators including pro skaters.
