Surrey, BC – The 2026 Surrey Nagar Kirtan (Khalsa Day Vaisakhi Parade) once again brought together an extraordinary crowd, welcoming over 450,000 people from across the region to take part in one of Canada’s most meaningful cultural celebrations. Celebrating its 27th year, the event remains the largest Khalsa Day parade in the world.
Held annually in Surrey, the procession featured more than 20 elaborately decorated floats presented by Sikh schools, community organizations, and humanitarian groups. At the heart of the parade was the float carrying the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the Sikh holy scripture, honoured with the utmost respect throughout the day.
Attendees experienced a vibrant showcase of Sikh heritage and traditions, including devotional music, storytelling, and Gatka martial arts demonstrations. Along the route, local families and businesses offered free food and refreshments to all, continuing the long-standing tradition of seva (selfless service) that defines the event. The parade remained open, inclusive, and free, welcoming people of all backgrounds to participate.
This event continues to be a meaningful way to share Sikh culture, values, and history with the broader community,” said parade spokesperson Moninder Singh. “This year the parade was dedicated to the memory of Bhai Hardeep Singh Nijjar and his assassination by the Indian state and the Sikh call to self determination in the form of Khalistan and its 40th declaration anniversary. It’s inspiring to see so many people come together in a spirit of respect, learning, and celebration.”
Organizers expressed their appreciation to attendees, volunteers, and partners whose contributions helped make the 2026 event a success. Preparations are already in progress for next year’s celebration.
