RICHMOND, BC – With health at the top of its philanthropic list, the Vancouver Diamond Lions Club held its annual Installation & Charity Gala this past July. Co-chaired by Cindy Chan and Gordon Zhang, the event raised close to $30,000 in support of Richmond Hospital Foundation’s Emergency Department (ED) Mental Health Campaign. Funds will help ensure a dedicated, calming space for those with mental health symptoms to receive better care during emergency visits.
“We’ve always been committed to giving back to the community and supporting health care needs in Richmond,” says Marco Choi, President, Vancouver Diamond Lions Club. “This year, we chose to raise funds towards a dedicated space in the emergency department for patients experiencing mental health concerns. With anxiety and depression becoming more prevalent, providing a more supportive environment is a priority.”
The Vancouver Diamond Lions Club has been a long-standing supporter of Richmond Hospital Foundation. Since 2009, the Club has generously contributed towards the purchase of urgently needed equipment, the new acute care tower, and the Medical Imaging Centre Campaign for Richmond Hospital and the community of care.
Richmond Hospital Foundation’s ED Mental Health Campaign goal was to raise $1.38 million for a calming space specifically for patients with mental health conditions to receive the care they need. The dedicated space will feature reduced external stimuli via softer lighting, soundproof walls and more privacy; an environment separate from the rest of the busiest and noisiest areas of the Emergency Department; and enhanced sightlines for nursing staff to respond effectively to patient needs.
“The Vancouver Diamond Lions Club’s support has been instrumental in elevating the care our health care teams provide in Richmond over the years,” expresses Spencer Gall, Chief Philanthropy Officer, Richmond Hospital Foundation. “This donation will help improve mental health care in Richmond’s Emergency Department. We are so grateful to be the beneficiary of their annual gala once again.”
