Tyler Dhillon, born in Canada, hopes to achieve financial security to look after his family.
“My Grandparents were from India and immigrated to Canada long ago. To me, my grandpa is my biggest inspiration in life. He came to Canada with an empty pocket but with jampacked determination in his heart. He worked hard to support his family in India while building a new life in Canada. His work ethic and incredible life story inspire me in my daily toil, and my admiration of his outstanding achievements will stay in my heart forever.”
Tyler holds mentorship is of successful importance to young people as it allows them to take advantage of the “prior experiences of those who are more knowledgeable.” It’s more effective in setting and achieving goals through consistent achievements by which individuals can reach their full potential.
“I am an athlete,” Tyler admits. “The sport has been a big part of my life since childhood. I played many sports while growing up, but soccer was my focus, playing on the varsity soccer team at UBCO for two years. I finished my varsity soccer career at Sfu. This summer, I will play in a semi-professional league with aspirations of reaching the professional level.”
Tyler hopes to live a life built on honor, hopefulness, optimism, fortitude, and sympathy. He thinks these traits can bring positivity to other young people in his community and lead them to strive for a place in the sun for themselves, which can also affect a successful outcome in reaching success and building interpersonal relationships.
In the last semester, an unfortunate accident happened. Tyler broke his ankle. He felt vulnerable after the injury as he had a heavy course load at SFU. “I realized everyone experiences vulnerability in varied ways, and I embrace the pain, failure, and lessons because I know that this will help shape me as an individual and strengthen me.”
Tyler works hard to stay positive when dealing with failure. He believes hope is a necessary piece of the puzzle to reach success. “Failure will teach us to make necessary adjustments to avoid repeating the same mistake. Learning from failure is vital to success, and it does not have to be our failure. We can learn from the failure of others as well.”
Tyler is such a vibrant and bold person, a confident leader. In terms of leadership, he leads through actions. He thinks a leader has not to be too vocal; instead, having a solid voice is crucial in leadership and many aspects of life, in which he strives and tries to excel. The performance builds confidence, and confidence brings out leadership qualities. He gives the example that when he practices more; he performs better on the field, which builds his confidence and brings out his leadership qualities.
As a leader, Tyler provides results to his team to set the tone. He always tries to improve his team by presenting each opportunity that comes. He thinks it’s the best way to enhance every team member. Leading by example sets the standard for achieving optimal results and strengthening the camaraderie in the team. Having a common goal and working towards it can inspire everyone to take part and ache to reach the highest pedestal of one’s performance.
He advises the younger generation with similar interests in sports to do better; there’s no other way than to work harder to reach one’s goals; Don’t be afraid of failure or struggles—because life itself is a continuing struggle—full of difficulties, from sunrise to sundown. He stresses the importance of completing the assigned tasks daily, which leads to speedy progress and success.
