Ms. Prasad has been recognized by the government of Canada in the 2021 Emerging Leader category for BC and the North.
Rochelle Prasad is a well thought: social entrepreneur, author, UN SDG advocate, and educator.
She has been awarded a lapel pin, a certificate signed by the Prime Minister of Canada, the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, a grant of $5000, at an intimate ceremony in Ottawa on December 5th.
Rochelle has identified two local Surrey Non Profits to donate the grant to: SPARK Foundation, and GlowWithin Foundation.

Rochelle states: “ I am honoured to receive this recognition by the Government of Canada. This is a testament to the power of youth voices not only in Surrey, but nationally in Canada. I have chosen to donate the grant to two youth led Non Profits in Surrey BC. SPARK Foundation, and GlowWithin Foundation. Both organizations are empowering youth to be the best versions of them selves. Thank you to my community for the support, and to the Government of Canada for this award. I am looking forward to continuing my work within Surrey and across Canada.
About the award:
Each year, Canada’s Volunteer Awards present twenty regional awards and one national award. The national Thérèse Casgrain Lifelong Achievement Award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated a dedication to volunteering for at least 20 years. The twenty regional awards are awarded to five regional recipients in each of the following four categories: Emerging Leader, Business Leader, Community Leader and Social Innovator.
Karina Gould, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, announced this year’s recipients of Canada’s Volunteer Awards. The Minister has honoured the recipients of the awards at a hybrid ceremony on December 5, 2022, at The Westin Ottawa. The ceremony has also been live-streamed on YouTube so that all Canadians can be part of the celebration.
Canada’s Volunteer Awards recognize community leaders, not-for-profit organizations, social enterprises and businesses that have made significant contributions to improving the lives of others. Award recipients are highly engaged in their communities and inspire Canadians to make a difference through volunteering.
