The entirety of Steveston Village will be transformed for Canada Day

JUNE 3, 2025 (RICHMOND, BC) —The City of Richmond, Steveston Community Society and Richmond Agricultural and Industrial Society are thrilled to present the 78th annual Steveston Salmon Festival on July 1, 2025. Taking place across Steveston Village, one of the country’s largest Canada Day celebrations will feature a community parade, live music, performances by local youth and professional bands, a variety of delicious food, and much more.

This year’s festival will feature a revised family-friendly program that features the brand new Salmon Run Zone. Located next to the refreshed Steveston Community Park playground — which will be open in time for Canada Day — the zone will offer face painting, interactive games, a youth-run concession stand, a small stage for live music by Richmond’s local youth, and a demonstration area for the Richmond Sockeyes junior ice hockey team.

Live music will be a central offering once more, with professional acts gracing the stage from 12–7:30pm on the day of the festival. Ten Souljers will headline in the Spirit of Steveston Zone, with additional performances by Dr. Strangelove and the Aristo-Cats. The BluesHawks, which melds boogie, swing, jump blues, and more, will headline the Catch of the Day Zone. Annual favourites are all returning this year. The Kids Bike Parade — open to all, no advance registration required — will kick off the festivities at 9:30am. The official Canada Day Parade will take place from 10am–12pm, starting at Garry Point Park and ending at Moncton St. and Railway Ave. Road closures will be in effect in the area from 8am to 12pm.

About the Steveston Salmon Festival

The Steveston Salmon Festival began as a July 1 “Sports Day” themed event, which was held as a fundraiser to build a playground in the Steveston Park in 1944. Today, it is one of the largest non-profit driven Canada Day celebrations in the country. From 1946 to today, there has been a myriad of changes, from the parade route and more notably the name change from Richmond Salmon Queen Carnival to Steveston Salmon Festival. There has not been a Salmon Queen since 1986, but there have been other components which have remained constant: the Festival is always a homage to Steveston’s salmon fishing heritage, and the dedication of the citizens of Steveston still drives “Canada’s biggest little birthday party” each year.
