Sher Vancouver celebrates its 10th anniversary

Sher Vancouver celebrates its 10th anniversary and presents a full re-brand of their visual identity using a vibrant 2-colour logo paired with an updated icon.

Sher Vancouver has grown over the last decade, their vision has expanded, and through it all, they walk boldly into the future as they continue to make a difference in the South Asian LGBTQ community.

BACKGROUNDER

Sher means “lion” in Persian and many South Asian languages.  The lion represents strength, courage, bravery, and pride which are all attributes people coming to terms with their sexual and gender identity possess.

The slogan “Marching forward with pride since 2008” is a play on the words a pride of lions and gay pride.

Sher Vancouver was also originally a queer Sikh group.  Sikh males use the middle name “Singh” which means lion and Sikh females use the middle name “Kaur” which means lioness or princess.

Sher Vancouver is now a non-profit society for LGBTQ South Asians and friends founded by Alex Sangha.

Alex Sangha is an award winning social worker and author based in Surrey, BC. For more information check out http://alexsangha.com
