SURREY – On January 9th, Shane Simpson, Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction visited the head office of Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society. While there, he had the opportunity to interact with staff, management and clients, and he re-emphasized the provincial government’s commitment to reducing poverty in BC. “Too many people are struggling to make ends meet, earn a living wage, or find and keep affordable housing. Too many families are suffering without necessities, relying on food banks, going hungry or sending their children to school hungry. We need community organizations like PICS to partner with us to address this situation”, he said.
The Minister was very impressed with the broad range of services offered at PICS through Employment Programs, Settlement & Language Services, Seniors and Housing Programs, Health & Aging Services, and Youth & Volunteer Programs.
“I am very thankful to the Minister for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit PICS. His visit provided an opportunity to my colleagues to present some unique project ideas to the Minister, who in turn promised to have these project ideas examined in detail by his department,” said Mr. Satbir Singh Cheema, CEO of PICS.
