Q & A with Manish Sharma
Q. Please tell us about yourself.
A. I immigrated from India in 2002. In 2008, I ventured into my construction company, Square Nine Developments Inc. Our dedication towards quality and craftsmanship is making its presence known in the multi-family housing market. Our Commitment to design excellence and to build to lasting quality and value created a niche in the construction industry.
Q. What ignited the spark in you to become an entrepreneur at such a young age?
A. From an early age, I became very passionate to build a business of my own. Coming from a business oriented family, it was just second nature to me. When I develop a passion for one thing, I always focus on it and strive to make sure I reach my goal.
Q. What mindsets helped to motivate you?
A. Having a passion and hunger for what I am doing. When I aspire something and pursue it, my focus has always been realistic; I don’t pursue something that would only amount to what the Latins would call: Ignis Fatuus—a false hope, goal, or delusion.
Q. Do you believe there is some pattern or formula to becoming a successful entrepreneur?
A. There is neither a real paradigm nor a deep dark secret. I’d say it’s just important to believe in what you are doing, wanting it, and going for it full blast.
Q. Who has been your greatest inspiration?
A. My work has been my greatest inspiration . When I look back on a project and think to myself I couldn’t have done it better or in any other way, it inspires and motivates me to accelerate in what I do.
Q. How do you look for prospective employees who share the same disposition as you have?
A. I always look for their character, passion, and their desire to take on for the team.
Q. What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
A. Being passionate, Being hungry, and aggressively going after it.
Q. What is your greatest fear and how do you manage fear?
A. Losing my desire to pursue any goals is not something I’d wish to confront.
Q. What are your ideals?
A. Ideals may sound desirable and perfect, but we are not living in a perfect world. Because of this, I became a logical person. I live my life seeing the state of things as they exist.
Q. What sort of relaxation do you engage in to balance your life?
A. Several things, though one of my hobbies is reading, it keeps me abreast of what’s going on around me.
Q. How did you deal with failure?
A. As far as I’m concerned, failure is a missed opportunity, a possibility that is not taken and overlooked. If you don’t try, you will not know what it means to succeed. Each opportunity is a learning experience; to figure out what can be done better the next time around, and then grow from it.
Q. What makes you happy?
A. Fulfilling the things I have set to do and being surrounded by my loved ones.
Q. What sacrifices have you had to make to be a successful entrepreneur?
A. There are indeed tremendous sacrifices. However, finding right balance is the key, followed by the strength to weather challenges that would come your way.
Q. How far are you willing to go to succeed?
A. Sky is the limit. Opportunities are endless. Pushing myself to keep setting my goals and meeting them makes me successful and satisfied.
Q. Where do you see yourself and your business in ten or twenty years?
A. Still prosperous and growing.
Q. In one word, characterize your life as an entrepreneur.
A. Passionate.
