Mr. Johnny Fong and Ms. Rebecca Cheng have collectively donated $700,000 to Richmond Hospital Foundation towards the new Yurkovich Family Pavilion (new Acute Care Tower). Their donation will have an impact on the future of health care right here in Richmond.

Mr. Fong and Ms. Cheng have also donated $300,000 to Richmond Hospital Foundation’s Surgical Restart campaign, committing to match your donations dollar for dollar up to $300,000. Starting today your donation will have double the impact on supporting our surgical teams and equipping them with new state-of-the-art equipment, bringing a new standard of care to surgery at Richmond Hospital.

Mr. Johnny Fong is a business owner who immigrated to Canada with his family in the 1970s. In 1981, Mr. Fong started to establish his business. Bringing passion and courage coupled with invincible dedication and resilience, Mr. Fong has built a very successful company, CTG Brands, based in Richmond and two other locations in Toronto and Montreal.  Mr. Fong holds a strong belief in giving back and making an impact on those most in need. In 2006, Mr. Fong was chosen as one of the 100 influential Chinese-Canadians in BC.

“The doctors and nurses faithfully serve the community at Richmond Hospital,” says Mr. Fong. “The health care teams are great and they need help from the community to fund state-of-the-art equipment to save more lives in a safer and more efficient way.”

“Richmond Hospital’s original building is very old, deficient and small, while Richmond’s development has grown so fast in population and city development,” says Mr. Fong. “Approximately 60% of the population of Richmond is of Chinese descent and the community needs a hospital that meets today’s health care standard and demands. That is why I have also made a donation towards the new acute care tower in Richmond and hospital expansion.”

Mr. Fong and Ms. Rebecca Cheng are long-time family friends. Ms. Cheng and her family live in Hong Kong. The family is very involved in charity work and understand the impact donors can have in a community. Ms. Cheng and her family visit their family and friends in Vancouver on a yearly basis. When she heard about the needs of Richmond Hospital from Mr. Fong, she was inspired to help.

“Being able to be part of the solution and to be able to help others, especially in health care, brings joy to my heart,” says Ms. Rebecca Cheng. “Making an impact that is meaningful to not only me but to the community is what encouraged me to make this donation. I invite the community to join myself and Mr. Fong in putting the right tools in the hands of the surgical teams at Richmond Hospital.”

“We are thankful to both Mr. Fong and Ms. Cheng for their inspiring donations and for supporting health care in Richmond,” says Natalie Meixner, President and CEO, Richmond Hospital Foundation. “Their dedication to philanthropy and commitment to inspire others is a true reflection of their strong values of giving back and bringing our community together to provide the best possible care, close to home.”
