SURREY – The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport, spoke at the Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society where she highlighted new initiatives to help Canadians retire with confidence and security.
Minister Duncan appeared with her team at the PICS Assisted Living Facility to announce the programs affecting seniors under Budget 2019. “Big part of the budget is focused on ensuring the secure and dignified retirement for seniors” Kristy Duncan. According to the Minister, Budget 2019 allows seniors to take home more money with a New Guaranteed Income Supplement which provides earning exemption for seniors who are working past their retirement age.
The new budget will also automatically enroll seniors over the age of 70 into their pension plan and enhance the security of workplace pensions to better protect pensions if there is portrait Insolvency. The New Horizons for Seniors program is another program under Budget 2019 where grants are provided to projects to buy equipment for senior centers, provide financial literacy classes, and volunteer opportunities.
Honourable Sukh Dhaliwal, MP was also present at PICS Assisted Living Facility. Thanking Satbir Cheema and the whole team of PICS, he said “PICS Senior House is providing food, language and the culture to seniors and that is very important for seniors, so I salute the staff and management of PICS”.
