Gurukul Canada presents Arpan – A Sitar Surbahar Concert

We are honored to host Pandit Harvinder Sharma, the eminent disciple of Ustad Vilayat Khan, the legendary creator of the modern sitar sound. As a true doyen and torchbearer of this lineage, Pandit Sharma brings with him the depth of tradition and the brilliance of mastery.

As a true doyen and torchbearer of this lineage, Pandit Sharma brings with him the depth of tradition and the brilliance of mastery. He will be joined by his disciple Sharanjeet Singh for an evening that highlights continuity, creativity, and the living legacy of this timeless art.
The program will feature a rare sitar–surbahar dialogue, seldom heard on the modern stage. Followed by a sitar duet. They will be accompanied on tabla by Amarjeet Singh. The evening will also include a special presentation by the students of Gurukul as an ensemble, blending Indian classical, Western classical.

This concert brings together three generations of artistry in one evening, an extraordinary celebration of tradition, versatility, and the evolving grandeur of the sitar and surbahar.
