Surrey, BC: The Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association (DSBIA) wishes to congratulate all those involved in the official opening of the new sustainable building at Simon Fraser University’s (SFU) Surrey Campus, one that will continue its leadership in engineering, energy technologies and environmental sciences.
The new $126-million building, the first of a three-phase development expands the Surrey campus beyond its already existing location at Central City. The new building sits adjacent to its predecessor and will be home to a new Sustainable Energy Engineering program which is set to launch in September of this year.
“We are thrilled to see the opening of the first phase at SFU’s new Surrey Campus and wish to extend our warm congratulations to all involved,” says DSBIA Chair Bill Cunningham. “The new campus will bring students from around the world to Surrey and will showcase the advanced direction our city is moving in to be leaders in the sustainability and clean energy sector.”
SFU’s campus will be the last building in the downtown core designed by the late Bing Thom and will join his previous projects Surrey City Centre Library and Central City. The five-storey, 20,500 square-meter structure will feature teaching labs, an atrium and a 400-seat theatre that will be available to the Surrey community.
