Award-winning Artistic Director of Diwali in B.C., Rohit Chokhani is pleased to announce the 2019 programming for Diwali in B.C. – a provincial multicultural festival featuring artists with different backgrounds and practices. The artistic theme for the 2019 celebrations, taking place October 6 to November 1, is ‘Diwali for All’ and features a ground breaking, culturally diverse lineup of artists from various traditions and backgrounds. Highlights include world-renowned contemporary Indigenous dance company Red Sky Performance; multifaceted performing artist Nyla Carpentier; Cameroon-born dance artist Jacky A. Yenga; Indo-Caribbean theatre artist and Artistic Director of Rumble Theatre Jiv Parasram; world-renowned Bollywood dance group Shiamak Vancouver; a three-time Canadian national dance champion and Bollywood dancer Karima Essa; Indian classical musician Cassius Khan; one of the few Kathak dance artists in Canada, Amika Kushwaha; Bharatanatyam dance artist of Bangladeshi descent, Arno Kamolika; Mihika Arts Award-winning classical Indian dance artist Ashvini Sundaram; Hindustani classical music sitarist Mohamed Assani; tabla player Gurdit Singh Namdhari of All India Radio Fame; and many more.
With past presentations of Diwali celebrations in Vancouver, Coquitlam, Vernon, Maple Ridge and Nanaimo, the 2019 edition of Diwali in B.C. will continue to build on the success in Vancouver, with special programming in the Punjabi Market and Downtown Eastside, along with a second annual Diwali in Vernon festival, and an inaugural Diwali presentation in Cranbrook, B.C.
