PORT MOODY-COQUITLAM — Port Moody-Coquitlam BC Liberal candidate James Robertson is calling on John Horgan’s NDP government to take immediate action to provide an economic recovery plan for British Columbians.
“While John Horgan’s NDP continue to take a wait and see approach with their 6-week survey, I have heard many stories from residents in Port Moody-Coquitlam about how their businesses are struggling to reopen and young families working through precarious situations while caring for their children,” Robertson said.
Recent jobs numbers from Statistics Canada show that BC’s unemployment rate is up nearly 50% since January — dropping from the lowest unemployment rate in Canada to the fourth highest at 12%. Thousands of British Columbians remain unemployed or under-employed with only part-time jobs.
Earlier today, MLA for Port Moody-Coquitlam Rick Glumac called BC Liberal demands for an immediate economic recovery plan for BC “too simple, they’re uninformed.” (Hansard, July 13, 2020)
“Everyone I talk with is concerned about their livelihood and are seeking clear steps to navigate through this pandemic. No doubt this is a challenge and we all have to rise to the occasion to support our residents. Perhaps Rick Glumac isn’t talking to enough of his constituents if he thinks their desire for a real and immediate economic recovery plan is simple and uninformed,” continues Robertson. “People in Port Moody-Coquitlam deserve better from their MLA.
“Andrew Wilkinson and the BC Liberal team are committed to holding the NDP to account on priority issues that British Columbians have expressed during these tough times. Just a few weeks ago, the BC Liberals forced the NDP to change their position on extending the temporary lay-off period to keep more workers employed. British Columbians deserve real concrete plans for economic recovery.”
Andrew Wilkinson and the BC Liberal team’s Comeback Plan includes over 60 policy proposals and ideas that have come from meetings and roundtables with British Columbians. Read about the plan here: www.bcliberals.com/comeback-plan.
