VICTORIA (September 18, 2020) – Leader of the Official Opposition, Andrew Wilkinson, released the following statement today for Rosh Hashanah:

This evening, Jewish families across British Columbia will gather at sundown to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, marking the start of the Jewish New Year and the beginning of the High Holidays.

“This year, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many celebrations will look different. However different the High Holidays may be for the Jewish community here in B.C. and around the world, it will not take away from the important values celebrated on Rosh Hashanah.

“The High Holidays will see the Jewish community celebrate the new year followed by days of repentance that conclude on Yom Kippur. They are a time for reflection and renewal and across this province, whether in homes and synagogues, or on Zoom calls, the Jewish community will get together to take part in traditions that have survived for centuries, outlasting and overcoming devastating horrors and oppression.

“On behalf of the entire BC Liberal Caucus, I want to extend our warmest wishes to those celebrating Rosh Hashanah and our sincerest hopes that the year 5781 brings good health and happiness to all.
