Surrey, BC – This week the City of Surrey launched its new #LightWhereYouLive campaign, a community engagement project to help illuminate spirits, and the City over the winter months. The campaign encourages the community to help make Surrey’s neighbourhoods festive and bright by decorating homes and businesses with lights and bright colours, while encouraging that participants share their contributions on social media.
“As we continue to keep our families safe through the COVID-19 pandemic, our winter celebrations will be different this year,” said Mayor Doug McCallum. “That doesn’t mean we can’t brighten spirits and bring cheer by adding a splash of light and colour to your home and neighbourhood. I invite you to join us and Light Where You Live, no matter how you celebrate this time of year. Together, we can collectively brighten our city and our spirits this Holiday season.”
From now through to December 20, Surrey residents are invited to share photos or videos of their festive lights on social media for a chance to win weekly prizes. Each submission will be entered to win one of four $100 gift cards to participating Surrey Store to Door businesses. Those submitting content can do so by posting on Facebook or Instagram using the campaign hashtag #LightWhereYouLive, or emailing [email protected].
To kick off the campaign, all of the City’s seasonal lights will be illuminated including motifs, decorative tree lights in each town centre, and additional park lights in key locations across the City. To support COVID safe practices, additional park lights have been installed in Bear Creek Park, Newton Athletic Park and South Surrey Athletic Park in a manner that enables a safe drive-by experience. All park lights will stay illuminated at each location until January 3, 2021.
The Light Where You Live campaign supports the health and well-being of residents, while ensuring residents enjoy the Holiday season safely.
