After four days of action, the 2025 BC School Sports Boys Basketball Provincial Championships ended on Saturday at Langley Events Centre.
Three of the four tournament winners captured the first championships in their schools’ respective history as the St. John’s School Saints (Vancouver) won the 1A Tournament title, the Pacific Academy Breakers (Surrey) won the 2A Tournament and the 3A Tournament went to the Windsor Wolves (North Vancouver.
Victoria’s Spectrum Thunder capped off the night with a second straight 4A Tournament title.
1A Tournament
To be the best, you must beat the best and the St. John’s School Eagles did just that on Saturday afternoon.
Facing the powerhouse program that is the Unity Christian Flames – the Chilliwack school had won 3 of the past 4 BC School Sports 1A Boys Basketball Provincial Tournament championships – the Vancouver school etched their names in the history books, capturing their first title in program history with a come-from-behind 87-82 win.
The game was played at Langley Events Centre to cap off the four-day championships featuring 16 teams from across the province.
The Eagles – the No. 1 seed – trailed for all but 3:05 of that contest and were down by eight points at 78-70 in the fourth quarter. But the third-ranked Flames went cold and were outscored 17-4 down the stretch.
Douglas Cassidy earned the Championship Player of the Game after coming up with a pair of clutch 3-pointers in the final quarter while Viv Anderson-Francois scored 12 and Kian Afshar added 10 in the fourth as well.
Anderson-Francois – who was named Most Valuable Player – finished one assist shy of a triple-double with 30 points, 22 rebounds and nine assists. Afshar finished with 17.
Unity Christian had three players with 20+ points, led by Matthias Hulka’s 23 while Aaron Flokstra had 21 points and 11 rebounds and Caleb Friesen finished with 20 points, five rebounds, five assists and seven steals.
In the third-place game, the Haida Gwaii Breakers were 99-67 winners over the Southpointe Academy Titans.

2A Tournament
Buoyed by a dominant second half from point guard Judah Ashbee, Surrey’s Pacific Academy captured their first BC School Sports 2A Boys Basketball Provincial Championship title.
Ashbee scored 22 of his 34 points after halftime as the Breakers pulled away from the Summerland Rockets 80-69 in the championship game on Saturday afternoon at Langley Events Centre.
Ashbee was later named Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.
Pacific Academy was the top seed while Summerland was No. 2, but the Rockets did enter the game with a perfect 32-0 record on the season. Both teams were looking for a first title in school history, but the Breakers pulled away in the fourth quarter as they extended their lead from four to the 11-point final margin of victory.
Earl Akene was also instrumental in the fourth quarter for Pacific Academy, scoring eight of his 21 points in the period. He also had 11 rebounds for the game.
Jack Campbell led Summerland with 20 points with Desmond and Mateo Duchek adding 18 and 14 points, respectively.
The third-place game saw the Collingwood Cavaliers outlast the Westsyde Whundas 86-80.

3A Tournament
A balanced scoring attack and a huge rebounding advantage helped the Windsor Wolves make school history.
The North Vancouver school had five players in double figures, plus a 55-35 advantage on the boards as the No. 2 seed upset the top-ranked St. Thomas More Collegiate Knights 66-58 in the BC School Sports 3A Boys Basketball Provincial Tournament championship game at Langley Events Centre on Saturday.
The Knights scored eight of the first 10 points, but once the Wolves went ahead late in the opening quarter, Windsor never trailed again, leading for 33:18 of the 40 minute contest.
Oscar Rouillard led the Wolves with 18 points, a well as seven rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots to earn the Championship Player of the Game. Perrin Taylor – who would win the Most Valuable Player Award following his 13-point, 11-rebound outing with Emmet Ward adding 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Zeru Abera was game’s top scorer with 24 points and nine boards while Jacob Oreta had nine points and a team-best 12 rebounds.
The third-place game was an all-Island affair as Courtenay’s Mark R. Isfeld Ice won 76-71 over Nanaimo’s Wellington Wildcats.

4A Tournament
With their lead down to two points early in the fourth quarter, the Spectrum Thunder responded with a 10-2 run, pulling away for a 81-66 victory over the Dover Bay Dolphins.
The victory gave the Thunder a second consecutive BC School Sports 4A Boys Basketball Provincial Tournament. It was the first all-Vancouver Island championship final in the 4A Tournament since 1978.
Spectrum led for the majority of the game with Tyler Felt scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds while J Elijah Helman finishing with 21. Harper Kopp – the Championship Player of the Game – had 15 points.
Frank Linder led the Dolphins with 28 points with Joe Linder and Van Suiter chipping in 18 and 15 points, respectively.
Dover Bay was the defending 3A Tournament champions before moving up to the 4A level this season after their school population increased.
