Burnaby resident and national award-winning newsperson has been awarded a King Charles III coronation pin.
Kiran Singh worked as an investigative journalist and a radio producer at CBC Vancouver, and is now a candidate with Burnaby’s ruling party, Burnaby Citizens Association (BCA), vying for a seat on the city council.
“It has been a privilege to see systemic change take place because of the work I do,” said Singh. “This award is proof that no story is small, that we must listen to our neighbours and hear what they have to say.”
Singh received this recognition for his contribution to local news, and arts and culture. His stories covered issues ranging from landlord and tenants’ rights, higher education in BC, healthcare, and other culturally significant phenomena. He was a regular contributor to CBC’s Early Edition and On the Coast. Singh’s investigative work was a catalyst for municipal and provincial changes that continue to serve British Columbians for the better.
Honorable Randeep Sarai, federal member of parliament and Canada’s Secretary of State for International Development, awarded this honour to Singh during a special ceremony on July 15 at the Surrey City Hall.
Singh previously has been a recipient of the Best Canadian Local News award, along with a number of other news awards like the RTDNA, while being nominated for such awards multiple times, and has been featured on Langara College’s publication, the Langara Journalism Review, as their cover story.
King Charles III coronation pins are awarded to individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to their communities and shown commitment to the betterment of society.
