Surrey, BC – The Wubs Family Foundation and Surrey Schools, today launched Bright Futures — a new initiative designed to give Surrey’s children every chance to succeed.
The Foundation announced a $1 million, four-year commitment to create a legacy endowment for Surrey Schools, funding programs that help meet students’ most pressing needs: nutritious meals, school supplies, field trips, access to technology, and other essentials that too often fall out of reach for families.
“Every child deserves to walk into school with the same opportunities as their classmates, but the reality is that too many children in Surrey face barriers that have nothing to do with their ability or their potential,” said Carolyn Nichols, Wubs Family Foundation Board Chair , Executive Chair, Westland Insurance Group Ltd. “Bright Futures is our way of helping to close that gap, so that no child has to go without the basics that allow them to learn, grow, and thrive.”
Bright Futures is more than a funding program, it is a call to action for businesses, families, and neighbours to rally together for local students. Partners, including KPMG, Envision, Lawson Lundell, Reotech, PCI, Anderson Air, and Westland Insurance have already committed their support – showing what’s possible when the community stands together.
Principals, educators, and parents spoke at tonight’s event about the difference these resources can make, from ensuring children start the day with a full stomach, to providing the supplies and experiences that allow them to participate fully in school life.
“This generous donation by the Wubs Family Foundation and our community, through Bright Futures, will have a positive, transformational impact on the lives of our most vulnerable students and families,” said Gary Tymoschuk, Chair of the Surrey Board of Education. “When students know they are cared for and equipped with necessities – like food, warm clothing and programs and supplies that bring classroom learning to life – the entire community benefits.”
