On September 13th, The Voice winner Alisan Porter will release Pink Cloud, her first full-length album. After a long career spent wowing audiences onscreen before her move into music, the new record is about Porter finding her truth.

Thanks to her outstanding and exciting Season 10 win on The Voice, the world is already familiar with Porter’s mind-blowing vocal chops. On Pink Cloud, Porter shatters expectations and blazes a new path for herself with a collection of songs she co-wrote with Matt Rollings in Nashville.

It was a long and winding road that led to this point – one that was marked by a struggle with addiction, as well as renewal and self-discovery. Porter lays it all out in Pink Cloud, her first full-length album.

The album opens with “Pink Cloud,” a track with a gloriously retro guitar sound and a call for living in the moment – a call that’s echoed again later in the album with the stomping “Gone in a Flash.” Porter takes the tempo down and digs deep into ache of longing in “Like A Drug” before exploring the excitement of new love combined with the scars of past hurt in “What If I Wake Up.” The defining moment for Porter on this album may be the raucous “Wild One,” a sassy country-tinged rocker that’s an ode to unapologetic self-acceptance.

Pink Cloud was recorded live over two days at the Sound Emporium in Nashville. Porter’s deep soul and country influences can be heard everywhere on the record – from her powerful Janis Joplin-esque vocals to her gift for storytelling in the vein of Patty Griffin or Brandie Carlile.

“Music is all encompassing,” Porter says of the new album,” and music is such a great healer and such a great therapist. I wanted people to know that there was love after heartbreak. I wanted people to know that it was OK to be wild and free sometimes and to let your freak flag fly.”

Porter has spent most of her life either in front of the camera, on the stage, or behind the microphone. As a child, she won Star Search, appeared in television shows and in films like Parenthood, and starred in Curly Sue opposite Jim Belushi. In young adulthood, she made her Broadway debut as Marty in “Footloose” and then went on to star as Bebe in the recent revival of “A Chorus Line.” After spending years dancing with the best of Broadway every night, Porter stepped out of the spotlight to spend time with her family.

Over the years, Porter discovered that singing, rather than acting, was her true love. Her 2016 season on The Voice came as quite a surprise – a friend submitted her without telling her. Porter dazzled the judges and won legions of fans. As she continued her journey after winning the show, it was important to Porter to let her own voice and truth shine through.

On Pink Cloud, that voice – and Porter’s individuality and unique story – is on full display.
