Canada’s baby-boom generation are at the age where they need their first pair of reading glasses, bifocals, tri-focals or progressive multi-focal lenses. And this ever-increasing demand for eyewear means a boom to BC’s optical industry.
Glasses were once considered ‘medical devices’, where fashion was virtually non-existent. But today’s fashion eyewear boasts exotic materials and famous designer names. Christian Dior, Ralph Klein, Alfred Sung, Spectacle Eyeworks and Alain Mikli have made eyewear frames a ‘fashion accessory’. And famous brand names like LA Express, Modo, Prada, etc offer fabulous frames on the cutting edge of technology.
BC College of Optics (BCCO) has been training opticians and contact lens fitters in BC since 1984 and many BCCO graduates now own their own optical dispensaries. With their experienced teachers and intensive 6-month accelerated program, BCCO offers quick entry-level positions into BC’s fast-growing optical industry.
“We’ve been training energetic, motivated students for exciting careers as opticians and contact lens fitters for over twenty-six (26) years”, says Ted Morse, Program Director at BC College of Optics.
BCCO graduates enjoy job security, interesting work and good pay after only six (6) months of training.
