Western Community College (WCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Troy Abromaitis to its External Advisory Board, further strengthening the College’s connection between education, industry, workforce development and economic growth.
Abromaitis is an experienced business and community leader with nearly two decades of experience in real estate development and management across Western Canada. His career includes responsibility for more than 30 development projects, including major residential, mixed-use and master-planned communities. He has held senior leadership positions in the development and real estate sectors and has served in a number of industry and community organizations.
A member of Lytton First Nation and the Nlaka’pamux Nation, Abromaitis has also demonstrated a strong commitment to community development, Indigenous economic participation, philanthropy and volunteerism. He has served as President of the Real Estate Institute of British Columbia and currently holds leadership and board roles in several industry and community organizations. He was also named a recipient of the 2025 Medal of Good Citizenship by the Province of British Columbia.
“Education is economic infrastructure,” said Anita Huberman, Board Chair of Western Community College. “When we educate and train people for the jobs our economy needs, we are building the talent, entrepreneurship and workforce capacity that allow communities and businesses to grow. Troy understands development from the ground up, from investment and housing to community building and the importance of people. His perspective will be extremely valuable as WCC continues to connect education with the economic needs of our region.”
The appointment reflects WCC’s growing role in BC’s education, health, technology and economic-development ecosystem. The College is focused on ensuring its programs and partnerships respond to the skills employers need while creating meaningful career pathways for students.

Our External Advisory Board gives us a direct connection to leaders who understand where the economy is going and what employers and communities will need next.”
Abromaitis said he is pleased to join WCC and contribute his industry and community experience to the College’s work.

We need skilled people, entrepreneurs, trades, professionals and leaders who can turn ideas into opportunity. Abromaitis’ professional background also includes significant experience in housing and urban development, with his work spanning residential, mixed-use and rental projects. “If we want to build a stronger economy, we have to invest in people as seriously as we invest in physical infrastructure,” Huberman added. “That means giving students access to relevant education, creating pathways into careers and ensuring employers have access to the talent they need. This is what we mean when we talk about economic development through education.”
