MEGHA GOYAL – EVERY CHALLENGE WILL HELP YOU GROW

BY J.M. LEE

Megha Goyal is qualified to practice law in Canada, India, and the United Kingdom. After gaining experience in the UK and at a large national law firm in downtown Vancouver, she started her own firm specializing in real estate and corporate law. The idea behind starting Red Oak Law was simple — to provide accessible, client-focused legal services that felt more approachable and affordable than larger firms.

“My journey has been shaped by hard work, openness to learning, and taking opportunities that pushed me outside my comfort zone,” she reminisces. “It has not been a straight line, but every challenge helped me grow into leadership.”

One of the biggest lessons she has learned is the importance of client-centered service—genuinely understanding people’s needs and helping them succeed. As a woman in law, she has also learned to confidently own her voice and leadership style.

“I’m especially passionate about educating first-time home buyers and supporting women clients in making informed decisions. My greatest inspirations are my mother and my mother-in-law, who embody grace, resilience, and authenticity. Watching how they navigate life with quiet strength has deeply influenced the kind of leader and person I strive to be.”

Starting her own law firm became Megha’s biggest risk and most vulnerable moment. She stepped away from stability into uncertainty, and moments of self-doubt followed. But that experience taught her resilience and strengthened her confidence.

“I realized confidence does not come from having all the answers,” she says. “It comes from consistently showing up, doing the work, and trusting yourself to navigate challenges. My family has also been my strongest support system throughout the journey.”

She mentors law students at the Peter A. Allard School of Law and sits on the board of Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society, which supports women facing domestic violence and other difficult circumstances.

In mentorship, Megha values openness to growth, consistency, and willingness to learn. “Mentorship works best when there is mutual commitment and shared values. My confidence has developed gradually through experience and by stepping into uncomfortable situations. From being “Head Girl” in school to now owning my own law firm, every stage has taught me something new.”

She learned that bold leadership is not about being loud—it is about being prepared, grounded, and authentic.

“Courage, resilience, and adaptability are essential, but women also need visibility and strong support systems. It is not enough to work hard. Your impact must also be recognized. Women should not hesitate to take opportunities, ask questions, and step into spaces where they may be underrepresented.”

She also believes that leadership is reflected in how people feel when they walk into a room. “I try to lead with clarity, consistency, and respect while creating an environment where people feel valued and heard. Great leadership is not about having all the answers; it is about bringing together the right people, trusting their expertise, and building a culture of collaboration.”

Women are often questioned more intensively or expected to prove themselves repeatedly. “But I’ve learned not to internalize that resistance. Over time, confidence, preparation, and consistency earn respect. Yes, sometimes in subtle ways.” Megha agrees that balance comes from boundaries, delegation, and accepting that perfection is not realistic. “I make time for family, staying active, mentoring students, and community work because those things keep me grounded.”

Inclusion is more than representation, she agrees without flinching. “It is about making people feel heard, valued, and empowered to contribute. True inclusion strengthens leadership by creating space for diverse perspectives and experiences. “At the end of the day, people may forget what you have said, but they will always remember how you made them feel. To me, that feeling is inclusion.”

Motherhood has given Megha a deeper sense of purpose and perspective. It reminds her to stay present and appreciate the simple moments. It has also taught her to prioritize what truly matters and let go of unnecessary worries. Motherhood has deepened her empathy and strengthened her ability to connect with others on a more emotional level, enriching her relationships and helping her find balance between personal and professional life.

“My mother has been one of my greatest role models. She sacrificed many of her own aspirations to support our family with unconditional love and strength. I would thank her for teaching me how to care for people, lead with compassion, and do the right thing even when it is difficult.
