The Lexus LFA is an iconic, legendary Supercar that originally debuted in 2010. With a sleek, swoopy body, state-of-the-art technology, and a highly tuned V10 engine boasting 553 horsepower, it has been acclaimed by the automotive press as one of the finest modern-day supercars ever built. The LFA won accolades for its high-revving, bulletproof Yamaha-derived V10 engine, superb acceleration, sublime handling, and excellent everyday driving capability.

There is no current LFA for 2026, but the new Lexus LFA is expected in 2029, possibly debuting as a 2028 model. Details are approximate, according to both Lexus and automotive press reports. The new Lexus LFA concept, however, was displayed at the annual Monterey Car Week event in California in 2025. Lexus says the pre-production Sport Concept version of the new LFA is expected to be identical to the production model as displayed. In a press release, Lexus said, “The LFA Concept is a next-generation sports car model that embodies, along with the GR GT and GR GT3, Toyota’s Shikinen Sengu ethos.” Based on the three key elements of a low center of gravity, low weight with high rigidity, and the pursuit of aerodynamic performance.” The new Lexus LFA is designed to be an electric sports car, not a plush grand tourer. As a result, storage options will be limited.

Battery power – no V10 engine!

Unlike its predecessor, the new LFA will be battery-powered only, with no hybrid version on the cards for now. Horsepower figures have not yet been released, but over 600 hp is expected as the lowest figure. The styling will be updated with an even lower-slung design, featuring a lightweight aluminum frame and a ground-effect, low-riding body adapted from the current GR GT sports car. The LFA’s styling will be specialized and unique to this model only. Ultra-aerodynamic body contours, high-speed aero aids, and a bevy of high-tech engineering systems are expected to maximize performance. The LFA will use the same advanced aluminum space-frame as other new Toyota Gazoo Racing supercars.

The new LFA will likely be the first to use Toyota’s first-generation solid-state batteries (SSBs), which have much-improved energy density, allowing battery packs to be much thinner. The more compact battery will also offer the LFA even better mass centralization and weight distribution for optimum handling and performance, according to Lexus. Another benefit of SSBs is the faster charging rate, enabling a charge from 10% to 80% in just 10 minutes.

Interior-wise, the new LFA’s cabin is expected to be minimalist and driver-focused, with an emphasis on total control and performance-oriented driver ergonomics. The instrument and driver infotainment display will also likely be a curved, all-digital unit, with a dedicated driver instrument cluster behind a GT3 racing-style steering wheel. Lexus says, “The LFA will have an ideal driving position that enhances a sense of car-driver unity and vehicle handling.” Lexus also said the new steering wheel “eliminates the need for regripping with a different hand, together with a switch layout that makes blind touch operation possible and so enabling intuitive vehicle control.”

Final performance specifications, powertrain, top speed, and pricing, along with a production timeline, are still to be confirmed. Like its predecessor, which was always a rare, limited-run supercar, the LFA is expected to command a six-figure price of over $500,000. Lexus says the new LFA will make a showroom appearance in 2029 in limited numbers. As with all good things, Lexus will make supercar fans wait!
