Sahabhāva is a Sanskrit word for coexistence, community, and coming together. Originally a virtual festival which was one of the first Indian classical music and dance events to occur globally during COVID-19, ICMSV continues the concept live with the same intention – to support artists in our community and experience a breadth of artistic disciplines.

This year’s Sahabhāva boasts a diverse range of dance and musical traditions from the subcontinent, brought alive here in Vancouver. The evening will unfold with a Kathak recital by Palak Dhiman, followed by an exploration of Khayal and Thumri by Hindustani vocalist Shoumi Roy along with Hriday Buddhdev (Tabla) and Akhil Jobanputra (Harmonium). The second half commences with a Katha-Kirtana (devotional storytelling) recital by Sharvari Somayaji (Carnatic vocals), Shriram Rajagopalan (Violin), and Keerthy Raghavan (Mridangam). To conclude, Dwaipayan Ray (Sarod) will present a medley of ragas with Hriday Buddhdev (Tabla).

Entry is by scaled contribution levels starting at $20 – giving you access to the entire evening! Proceeds will go towards our artists and sustaining the organization’s future endeavours, so whatever you are able to contribute is much appreciated.

The Sanctuary at Vancouver Unitarians is located at the north-east corner of Oak Street and 49th Avenue, and is the building to the left. All areas are wheelchair accessible. The venue can accommodate up-to 200 people with plenty of padded chair and floor seating available. Bus routes 17 and 49 both have stops at 49th Ave and Oak Street. The nearest sky train station is at Cambie and 49th. A five-block walk or take the 49 bus. If walking, turn on Fremlin to enter from the East side. The parking lot has capacity for 49 cars including 2 designated accessibility/disability spots. There are 3 bike racks for a total of 24 bicycle spaces. Parking is also available along Oak Street.

This program is presented by the Indian Classical Music Society of Vancouver (ICMSV).
