Launching ceremony of the Canadian Coast Guard’s Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel (OOSV) on the morning of August 17th at Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards. This event unveiled the name of the vessel and demonstrated Canada’s strengthened capacity to support important ocean research as well as help with critical Coast Guard missions such as Search and Rescue missions.
This new ship will also be the Canadian Coast Guard’s largest dedicated science vessel and will help us detect, monitor, and understand key ocean challenges — such as changing ocean conditions resulting from climate change and the impacts that these changes might have on fish stocks, species distribution and habitats, and food webs to provide the best available information to guide sustainable and responsible marine policies and resource decisions.
