– Isherwood set for first Paralympic appearance
– Paris 2024 Paralympic Games takes place August 28 to September 8
Ottawa, August 2, 2024 – Peter Isherwood has been nominated to represent Canada in the sport of Para table tennis at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, the Canadian Paralympic Committee and Table Tennis Canada announced Friday.

Isherwood will be making his Paralympic debut at the age of 47, and will become the first Canadian athlete in a wheelchair classification to compete in Para table tennis at the Games. The men’s Class 2 player is a two-time Parapan Am Games competitor from Lima 2019 and Santiago 2023. He is currently ranked world No. 49 in his category.
“When I got the call that I’m going to Paris, I was at a loss for words,” said Isherwood, Table Tennis Canada’s Male Athlete of the Year in 2022. “So much gets devoted to the sport you love, and the Paralympics is the ultimate goal. I’m so thankful to everyone who helped along the way. I look forward to representing this amazing country on the biggest stage in Para sport.”
Isherwood gained his nomination for Paris through bipartite allocation via the International Table Tennis Federation. He will compete in the men’s wheelchair Class 2 singles tournament, taking place September 1-5 at South Paris Arena.

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will take place August 28 to September 8 in Paris, France. Canada is expecting to send a team of approximately 130 athletes.
Prior to being officially named to the Canadian Paralympic Team, all nominations are subject to approval by the Canadian Paralympic Committee. The current list of nominated athletes can be found HERE. The approved final roster will be announced closer to the start of the Games.
