Nelson, B.C. (May 15th, 2020): Watershed Productions, based in British Columbia’s interior, is premiering the new feature documentary film Only In Nelson on Knowledge Network on May 26th.
A man’s murder over a panhandling spot serves as the flashpoint for Nelson BC’s raucous civic election and inspires Bubbles the Clown, who has been twisting balloon animals for twenty years, to run for Mayor. The film also follows a rock musician, a mountain bike champion, a transgendered activist, a pot store owner and a car salesman; colourful candidates and the city’s bohemian-leaning citizenry who face the encroaching winds of right wing global populism blowing through their narrow valley.
“Two years ago I was pitching Knowledge’s Director of Original Content on a documentary that delved into the countless subcultures just under the surface of this beautiful mountain city,” explains Amy Bohigian, Director and Producer of the film. “What came out of the production process was a character study of a quirky community in crisis. Today the film seems more relevant than ever, as the strength of our local communities are what will be tested during these challenging times ahead.”
The film will play on British Columbia’s public broadcaster Knowledge Network starting May
26th at 9PM and on their streaming service at the same time. Outside of Canada Only in Nelson is available on Vimeo on Demand starting on May 26th.
