On Tuesday, September 24, 2019, members of Society of Punjabi Engineers and Technologists of British Columbia (SPEATBC) took an initiative and planted close to 100 trees and shrubs in Hazelnut Meadows Community Park at 6840 140 St., Surrey. The event was organized with the support from City of Surrey’s Park division.
The event started at 5 pm in the evening with a demonstration on how to plant a tree safely. There were thirty members including their families to support the cause. Members grabbed the shovels, dug the holes and planted close to 100 trees within one hour. People in the park were amazed to see the efforts and enthusiasm of the members. Some members of the public also joined the tree plantation. Everyone had wonderful experience.
The Society of Punjabi Engineers and Technologists of British Columbia (SPEATBC) is a non-profit organization, which has successfully brought together Engineers and Technologists from different disciplines from both Canada and the Indian subcontinent.
Tree planation is a symbolic event for SPEATBC where engineers and technologists showed their support for climate action, sustainability and community building.

The year “2020” marks 25th Anniversary and the society is looking forward to grow in terms of reaching out to the community at large by looking at potential partnerships with the other organizations which share its vision.
