2027 JAGUAR I-TYPE: A NEW GENERATION OF JAGUAR ARRIVES!

After a controversial advertising campaign and a complete overhaul of its identity, including the feel and even the Jaguar logo, it is clear that the historic, beloved British luxury automaker is undergoing a major reset. As part of this rebranding, in the most radical shakeup in its 90-year history, the British automaker has now ceased production of all its current models. Jaguar plans to move further upmarket, with plans to introduce only electrified vehicles starting in 2026, with models to be released in 2027.

First up is the 2027 Jaguar I-Type, a bold, unconventional styled sedan that Jaguar says will be a very fast all-electric luxury Grand Tourer, representing a new generation and direction for the Jaguar brand. It will be built on a completely new electric-only platform called the Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). The I-Type is expected to feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain, paired with high-efficiency, latest-generation batteries and EV technology. The all-electric driving range is projected to reach up to 690 kilometers. Ultra-fast electric charging will also be available—taking minutes rather than hours.

Jaguar’s strategic plan is to avoid mass-market models and focus entirely on the upscale segment, competing with brands like Bentley and Aston Martin. For now, Jaguar is using the “I-Type” designation for this upcoming 2027 sedan; it is also known or could be designated as the “Type-01.”

Jaguar states, “The aim is to focus on avant-garde design to appeal to a younger, more flamboyant generation of buyers who make more emotional purchases based on factors like looks, brand, and unique ownership experiences.” The I-Type will indeed be very expensive and rare.

“We have very realistic volume expectations,” says Brandon Baldassari, head of Jaguar USA, in a media interview. “This is not a huge segment, and we will not be selling a million of these vehicles. These will be rare—when you see one, it’ll be a special occasion.”

Revealed in 2024, Jaguar’s new I-Type all-electric sedan looks impressive in concept, with striking proportions and what has been called a ‘hyper-monolithic design scheme.” Despite not having a traditional, space-consuming gasoline engine, it features a long hood, likely a styling choice to balance the car’s proportions.

Meanwhile, a blunt, upright front grille and a low roofline flow into a sporty rear deck. Reception has been mixed for the concept, but it is now gaining praise from some automotive critics who call it a “groundbreaking design.”

Initially introduced as a two-door concept coupe, Jaguar says the design will evolve as additional doors are added, along with changes to the roofline and rear quarter panels. However, Jaguar confirms that many elements from the concept will carry over to the production model. The large 23-inch wheel-and-tire combination will be kept, along with certain character features and the sleek, narrow lines that run from the hood across the roof and into the rear of the vehicle. Major details, such as the front fascia and lighting signatures, are still being refined. Little has been revealed about the interior specifications, except that it will include multiple screens and the latest advanced driver-assistance, safety, and infotainment technologies. Interior materials, trim, fit, and finish are expected to be of the highest quality.

Jaguar hasn’t released full specifications for the electric powertrain, but it is known that the I-Type will produce up to 986 horsepower from a possible dual-motor setup. Gerry McGovern, Jaguar’s chief creative officer, said the all-electric platform will support a powertrain capable of generating over 1,000 hp. The car’s platform is not designed to accommodate gasoline or gas/electric hybrid powertrains.

The final price for the 2027 Jaguar Type-I production hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it may range from $150,000 to more than $200,000 (US).

Two more models are in the works, including an SUV that moves away from the usual boxy shape in favor of a more daring design. The production Type-I is expected to be released in early 2026, with sales likely starting in mid-2026 or early 2027.
