Vaisakhi – The Advent Of Khalsa

Vaisakhi is a festival that has been celebrated since ancient times. On the auspicious day of Vaisakhi in 1699, Sahib E Kamaal Kalgidhar Patshah Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj established the Khalsa Panth. From then on, this festival became of utmost importance to the Sikhs. From that day onwards, for Sikhs, this day became a Khalsa Sirjana Diwas.

GURPREET KAUR BAINS – THE PASSIONATE EDUCATOR

Gurpreet Kaur Bains is an award-winning educator with 23 years of teaching experience in Surrey. She is the Languages Department Head at LA Matheson Secondary School and trained as a Science, Special Education, and Punjabi language teacher. She has actively collaborated with the Ministry of Education and the Museum of Surrey in developing South Asian curriculum and teaching resources.

PAULENA GIDDA, SARGEANT – THE CHARITABLE POLICE WOMAN

Paulena Gidda is a 26-year police Sergeant with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Born and raised in Squamish, British Columbia, her parents immigrated almost 55 years ago to Squamish and still reside there today as prominent community members. Both of her parents are successful entrepreneurs and instilled a strong sense of community and giving back at a young age.
