One Hupacasath and Tseshaht territory – On behalf of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council we would like to recognize Canada’s first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation which is quickly approaching. We would like to honour and uplift the many survivors of the Indian residential school system, those who never made it home, and all those who are directly and indirectly impacted.
On Monday, September 27 at the Open Meeting of Council, with representatives of the South Asian Community in attendance, Mayor Jonathan X. Cote read the City of New Westminster’s official apology to the community, families and descendants of those who were impacted negatively by actions and words of the council of New Westminster during the Komagata Maru incident.
India is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate 75 years of independence of India on 15 August, 2022. To commemorate the occasion, Honourable Prime Minister of India has decided to organize an online Quiz “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM)” between Jan 1st to 31st January 2022 for overseas Indian / Foreign youths between the age group of 16 to 35 years under the following three categories, i.e., PIOs, NRIs, OCIs & Foreign Nationals.

Progressive Intercultural Community Services (PICS) Society celebrated its 34th anniversary by honouring the Late Mr. Charanpal Singh Gill, the “Founder and Founding CEO” of PICS Society (1987 – 2017), by unveiling a picture/plaque in his honour within the PICS Head Office.

The Pacific Immigrant Resources Society (PIRS) is the recipient of B.C.’s 2021 Council of the Federation Literacy Award for its leadership and focus on creating inclusive literacy programs for refugee and immigrant women and children.
On August 24th, 2021, PICS Society honoured and recognized Mr. Raj Chouhan, Honourable Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in BC by presenting him with a ‘Community Icon Award’ and Citation for being the first South-Asian to be elected Speaker of any legislative assembly in Canada. Mr. Chouhan was also presented with a Limited-Edition Special Commemorative Coin minted in 2019 to celebrate Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 550th birthday.
