Mayor Brenda Locke Proclaims July 8, 2023, as Sher Vancouver Day in the City of Surrey

Surrey, British Columbia - Sher Vancouver, a registered charity for LGBTQ+ South Asians and their friends, families, and allies, is thrilled to announce that Her Worship Mayor Brenda Locke has officially proclaimed July 8, 2023, as Sher Vancouver Day in the City of Surrey.

“This proclamation coincides with the organization’s 15th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in our dedication to creating safe spaces and supporting the 2SLGBTQ+ community,” states Sher Vancouver Founder Alex Sangha.

The proclamation which is attached was signed by Mayor Locke and read at the Regular Council Public Hearing Meeting on June 19, 2023. Sher Vancouver invites everyone to join them in celebrating their 15th anniversary at the DESI-Q Cultural Gala – Sher Vancouver 15th Anniversary , taking place on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 6 pm. The gala will be held at the Bollywood Banquet Hall located in Payal Business Centre, at 201-8166 128th Street, Surrey, BC V3W 1R1 with door opening at 6 pm.

At the gala, attendees can look forward to an enchanting evening filled with captivating South Asian and fusion arts and cultural performances, mesmerizing classical music, a delectable traditional Indian buffet dinner with a wide array of vegetarian options, and an opportunity to relish delicious Indian desserts. 

Furthermore, the event will showcase the highlights of Sher Vancouver’s 15-year journey, showcasing their impact and contributions to the Surrey and Metro Vancouver communities.  

A special volunteer recognition event, generously sponsored by UBC Community Engagement and Forest Bean, will also take place, honoring the dedicated individuals who have contributed their time and effort to Sher Vancouver’s success.

Sher Vancouver anticipates a sold-out crowd of over 550 guests in attendance.
