Surrey Hospitals Foundation Celebration of Care Gala Raises Over $1.7M for Cardiac Care at Surrey Memorial Hospital

“This past year has been a pivotal year for healthcare in Surrey” says Harp Dhillon, Chair of the Surrey Hospitals Foundation Board of Directors. “Working with government, health care professionals, community members, and leaders who raised and addressed concerns; we turned a pivotal corner to help Surrey Memorial Hospital stand tall—a testament to the power of community.

Surrey, BC (February 25, 2023) – On Saturday, February 24, 2024, Surrey Hospitals Foundation hosted their 7th annual Celebration of Care Gala – Midnight at the Ballet, co-presented by Berezan & EllisDon, and raised over $1.7 million for equitable cardiac health care services at Surrey Memorial Hospital.

But our work is far from over. As our community continues to grow and evolve, so do the challenges we face in healthcare. Fundraising for cardiac care at the Celebration of Care Gala, we took one step closer to make our dream come true—one of a fully-equipped, regional hospital for the community south of the Fraser River.”

The theme for this year’s gala was “Midnight at the Ballet”. Surrey Hospitals Foundation welcomed over 600 of Surrey’s business, community, medical and philanthropic luminaries into a mysterious and alluring reception including entertainment of a harpist and violinist duo, a portrait artist, a live band, photo-booths and a live performance by the Goh Ballet. The evening also included the opportunity to celebrate the Foundation’s Cardiac Campaign lead donor, the Godwin Family, who honoured the late Dr. Tom Godwin – a pioneer cardiologist for the Fraser Health region; as well as the South Asian community for rallying together last November during the annual Gurpurab radiothon, hosted at RED FM, with proceeds from the day also going towards Surrey Hospitals Foundation’s Cardiac Campaign.

All proceeds from the Celebration of Care Gala, including funds raised during the live auction, raffle draw, and fund-a-need portions of the evening will directly support the enhancement of the cardiac department at Surrey Memorial Hospital. Surrey Memorial is the regional hub of health for the city of Surrey and its surrounding communities south of the Fraser River. Surrey itself is poised to be the largest city in the province several years from now.

“Seeing our community rally together for the important cause of enhancing our cardiac program at Surrey Memorial Hospital is truly uplifting, says Sonia Virk, Chair of the Gala Committee for Surrey Hospitals Foundation. “A huge thank you to all the sponsors, the Gala Committee, volunteers and guests – what we did on gala night will positively impact the lives of those we love—our friends, our family, and everyone near and dear to our hearts.”
