Hollywood Film Releases in January 2020

1) Bad Boys for Life (Action-comedy-thriller)

A modern, highly specialized police unit collides with the old-school Bad Boys. It goes crazy when a new threat emerges in Miami. Will Smith stars as Detective Mike Lowrey and Martin Lawrence as Detective Marcus Burnett. Burnett is now a police inspector, and Lowery is in a midlife crisis. The pair unite when an Albanian mercenary, whose brother they killed, resurfaces. Bad Boys for Life is an action-comedy, a sequel to Bad Boys and Bad Boys II, and the third installment in the Bad Boys franchise. Also stars Nicky Jam and Vanessa Hudgens.

2)  Like a Boss (Comedy)

Two hard-charging best friends build a juggernaut company and find their relationship tested when they receive a big buyout offer. Suddenly, all the differences matter, and the duo find their relationship tested. All the factors that made them the perfect odd-couple partners now put them at war, threatening their business and personal relationships. Salma Hayek plays the executive who makes the buyout offer and becomes the corporate puppet master pulling strings in creating hatred among the partners. Stars: Tiffany Haddish, Rose Byrne, Salma Hayek, Ari Graynor Jimmy O. Yang, and Karan Soni.

3)  Just Mercy (Drama)

Bryan Stevenson, a young lawyer, creates the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children. One of his first cases is that of a young man who is sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insists he didn’t commit. The case draws Stevenson into a tangle of conspiracy and political intrigue that transforms his understanding of mercy and justice forever. Cast includes Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx, Brie Larson, and O’Shea Jackson Jr.

4) Doctor Dolittle (Fantasy-Comedy)

Doctor Dolittle follows a peculiar doctor who discovers he can speak with animals, shunning human patients in favor of the critters. Based upon the character Doctor Dolittle by Hugh Lofting. Robert Downey Jr. stars as the title character, alongside Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, Jim Broadbent, and Harry Collett in live-action roles. The voice cast includes John Cena, Marion Cotillard, Carmen Ejogo, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez, Tom Holland, Rami Malek, Kumail Nanjiani, Craig Robinson, Octavia Spencer, Emma Thompson, and Frances de la Tour.

5) The Last Full Measure (War Action-adventure)

From real events, it is a great untold story during the bloodiest Vietnam War. An Air Force Pararescue Jumper, William H. Pitsenbarger, saves the lives of nearly sixty soldiers whom he did not know before falling himself. A young Washington bureaucrat with veterans of Operation Abilene and Pitsenbarger’s father convince Congress to reconsider the legacy of his sacrifice 34 years after his death. It leads to a posthumous award Medal of Honor given to the fallen hero. Stars: Linus Roache, Whit Peters, Bradley Whitford, Carlton Stanton, William Hurt, and Christopher Plummer.

6)  Underwater  (SCI-FI thriller)

A crew of underwater researchers must scramble to safety after an earthquake devastates their subterranean laboratory. Things go wrong, and tension mounts, while all the while, something dark is afoot. As time goes against them, the survivors must battle against new threats. Stars: Kristen Stewart, Peter Chernin, Vincent Cassel, Brian Duffield, William Eubank, Jenno Topping, Tonia Davis, T.J. Miller

7) Sonic the Hedgehog (Adventure-Comedy)

A live-action based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound—human—best friend, Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). And Sonic join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
