On Saturday, March 16, 2019, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (the Canadian Academy) will celebrate exceptional achievements in Canadian film with its national film series, the Canadian Screen Arts Festival. The third film of this exclusive event is Sashinka.

Sashinka, directed by Kristina Wagenbauer, is a story about Sasha, a young musician who is unable to hide her trepidation when her mother suddenly arrives on her doorstep like a hurricane without warning. As Sasha prepares for the most important concert of her career, she must find a way to survive the remaining 24 hours, confronting both the volatile woman and the past that she had worked hard to leave behind. Sashinka is showing in French with English subtitles.

Canadian Screen Arts Festival

The exclusive event series features five Canadian Screen Award-nominated films that epitomize the best in Canadian visual storytelling. Every Saturday, between March 2nd and 30th, leading up to the live Canadian Screen Awards broadcast on Sunday, March 31, a different film will be screened, with the exception of the final film that will be screened Friday March 29 in Toronto. Each screening will include door prizes, special guests or pre-taped content created especially for the series by the filmmakers.

Presented by Cineplex Entertainment and supported by Telefilm Canada, the Canadian Screen Arts Festival will be featured in seven cities across the country, including Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal, St John’s, and Iqaluit. The 2019 Canadian Screen Awards: Broadcast Gala will be televised live on CBC on Sunday, March 31 at 8 p.m. (9 p.m. AT/ 9:30 p.m. NT).
