Conservatives call on Trudeau to extend tax filing deadline

Canadians are struggling through a global pandemic and worried over Justin Trudeau’s looming third wave. The last thing they want to deal with right now is the headache and financial stress of filing taxes.

Ottawa, ON – Philip Lawrence, Conservative Shadow Minister for National Revenue, and Luc Berthold, Conservative Shadow Minister for the Treasury Board, released the following statement calling on Justin Trudeau to extend tax filing season:

“Canadians are struggling through a global pandemic and worried over Justin Trudeau’s looming third wave. The last thing they want to deal with right now is the headache and financial stress of filing taxes.

“This has been compounded by the recent cybersecurity issues at Canada Revenue Agency with approximately 1 million Canadians locked out of their CRA accounts. If these Canadians can’t even access their CRA accounts, how can they be expected to file their taxes?

“This is why Conservatives are calling on Justin Trudeau to do the right thing and extend the tax filing deadline to June 30. Let’s give Canadians some breathing room and much needed compassion. The simple fact is that Ottawa can wait.

“Canada’s Conservatives will continue to stand up for Canadians who have been left behind by Justin Trudeau.”
