BC Liberal statement on Ramadan

Interim Leader of the Official Opposition Shirley Bond released the following statement today for Ramadan

VICTORIA (April 12, 2021)

Interim Leader of the Official Opposition Shirley Bond released the following statement today for Ramadan:

“Tonight at sundown, Muslims throughout British Columbia and across the world will mark the start of Ramadan, a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection.

“Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is a time to consider the values of patience, empathy, and charity.

“In most years, Ramadan is an opportunity for families and friends to come together. However, for the second year in a row, Ramadan will look different as we continue to fight this global pandemic and protect our communities by staying home.

“While COVID-19 prevents many from marking this occasion together, the important values of Ramadan are even more relevant in these difficult times. From mosques hosting prayers on Zoom to families having iftar online, Muslims in British Columbia are continuing to embrace these important values and do their part in the fight against the virus.

“On behalf of the entire BC Liberal Caucus I want to wish the Muslim community here in British Columbia peace and our best wishes during this sacred and special month.

“Ramadan Mubarak!”
