The handsome looking 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class is four door, five passenger SUV that has undergone a subtle restyle, with a larger grille and a prominent Tri-Star Mercedes logo now even bigger. It doesn’t disguise it premium chops by any means. Opt for the coupe model and you gai slinkier roofline. New for 2021 is an Active Parking Assist with Parktronic (self-parking system) as standard along with Keyless entry/ignition. The AMG models get their own designs of alloy wheels and grilles, along with aerodynamic additions such as different front and rear fascia’s. They’re desirable but very expensive. The GLCs are all assembled in Germany.
We tested the GLC300 4Matic which in entry-level, rear-drive GLC 300 SUV form has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $49,900. However options drove the price past a heady $63,000
The GLC 300 has a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine delivering 255hp and decent fuel economy. The 9-speed automatic transmits its torque via a AWD 4MATIC system. As standard equipment includes: 14-way power-adjustable driver’s seat w/memory,10.25-inch infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration, Active Parking Assist w/Parktronic and the Self-parking system. The infotainment screen delivers vivid displays with various modes of control, including a console-mounted touchpad, voice command, gesture activation, or steering-wheel-mounted controls. Clear, precise graphics for navigation and the excellent “Hey Mercedes” voice activated command system are highlights. The smartphone integration system is also easy to use. There is a powered tailgate and safety is high with: as standard forward-collision mitigation, Blind-Spot Assist with Exit Warning Assist, and Crosswind Assist.
In terms of the interior one gains one of the finest cabins in its class. Trimmed in sumptuous materials—from wood to carbon fiber to nappa leather and aluminum.
Finding the ideal driving position is easy thanks to the electric seats, and outward vision is excellent. There’s room enough for five occupants in the comfortable seats and there are plenty of storage areas like the large glove box, generous door pockets, and a cubby in the center console. Behind the rear seats is 20.5 cubic feet of cargo space – not huge, but adequate and is accessed by a powered hatchback.
To sum up, the GLC300 delivers fully on Mercedes-Benz quality and engineering, and spectacular interior design. As much as one would like to sell a kidney for the super hot AMG versions, the GLC 300 will do very nicely!
