“Sports car fans and performance enthusiasts will lust over the CT4-V standard active rev-matching and no-lift shifting and electronic limited-slip rear diff.  That takes care of the speed, while handling is right up here with the benchmark BMW M3 sedan.”

Both more powerful and less expensive than its ATS-V  predecessor, Cadillac’s more minor performance 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing sedan features notable improvements over its predecessor, the ATS-V, including a substantial power increase and bigger brakes.

Like the preceding ATS-V, the CT4-V Blackwing ups the ante in the Cadillac family. Based on GM’s Alpha 2 platform that has been upgraded for improved rigidity across the board, first up is an upgraded version of the ATS-V’s 3.6-liter twin-turbo LF4 V-6, now rated to 472 hp and 445 lb-ft. Courtesy of upgraded twin turbochargers and revised cooling. A GM Tremec six-speed manual transmission is standard. GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission is optional; performance is rated at 96.kph in a mere 3.8 seconds, and both transmissions allow for a rapid 300 kph top speed.

Looks-wise, the CT4-V Blackwing is lower, more aggressive, and menacing with revised front and rear fascias with larger secondary grilles for cooling, a more aerodynamically efficient lower front splitter, a rear spoiler, and beefier rocker panel extensions. CT4 and the larger CT5 Blackwing’s are available with a functional carbon fiber aero kit that on the CT4-V Blackwing provides a 214-percent reduction in overall lift.

Sports car fans and performance enthusiasts will lust over the CT4-V standard active rev-matching and no-lift shifting and electronic limited-slip rear diff.  That takes care of the speed, while handling is right up with the benchmark BMW M3 with a stiffer buttoned-up chassis with GM’s fourth-generation Magnetic Ride Control and a five-link rear suspension; springs and bushings are stiffer, and hollow stabilizer bars. Braking is taken care of with substantial six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembo brakes as standard. The Blackwing CT5 has an optional and costly ceramic braking system. Tires have been upgraded to 18-inch Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires with a staggered-width setup.

Interior-wise, the CT4-V Blackwing features performance-oriented sport seats, trimmed in either leather or microsuede, and a CT5-V Blackwing steering wheel with carbon-fiber trim quick-access V-Mode button and traction control switches. The Blackwing’s interior has a 2.0-inch digital gauge cluster that changes appearance as the driver swaps between Tour, Sport, and Track driving modes. The Track configuration features performance-oriented displays such as a shift light, g-meter, launch control menu, and access to GM’s popular Performance Data Recorder (PDR). Standard equipment includes a digital gauge cluster, leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and an AKG-branded premium audio setup. And the list of optional extras is extensive, with two levels of upgraded interior trim packages. There’s also a carbon-fiber aerodynamics package and two racing-style sport seat options.

Further aesthetic enhancements for the exterior of the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing include two Carbon Fiber Packages. Carbon Fiber 1 Package includes a front splitter, front-wheel well deflectors, front dive planes, and a rear extra aero spoiler. Meanwhile, the Carbon Fiber 2 Package, which requires Carbon Fiber 1 Package, adds rocker moldings, Carbon Fiber rocker extensions, and a rear valance diffuser, all for an extra $2,650.

Interior options are plentiful as well, with numerous color schemes and materials on offer. Standouts include Natural Tan leather seating surfaces with suede back panels, Jet Black leather seating surfaces with suede back panels, Sky Cool Gray leather seating surfaces with suede back panels. Exterior colors include custom exterior paint finishes. The most expensive is Dark Emerald Frost for an extra $3,925. At the same time, there is also:  Infrared Tintcoat, Satin Steel, Metallic Blaze Orange Metallic, Shadow Metallic, Wave Metallic Electric Blue, and Rift Metallic.

Cadillac has yet to release pricing for these various options, but there is anticipation the base price for the CT4 Blackwing will be around $67.198 plus options. Orders for the new CT4-V Blackwing are already open, and deliveries will start this summer.
