2017 BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo

The venerable BMW 3 Series is the prestigious German automakers’ best-selling model in Canada- and for good reason, as it is a smart, sporty mid- size sports sedan with excellent performance. You can have it mild or wild with the superlative M versions as well. 2017 sees the revised variant to the 3-Serires family, in this case, the Gran Turismo. What is it? Well, the Gran Turismo is based on a modified 3-Series platform but with a stretch that makes it 7.9 inches longer and 3.2 inches taller than a standard 3-Series sedan. The extra space mean more than enough room for four occupants aboard as the seats are 2.3 inches higher than in the 3-Series and rear legroom has been increased by 2.8 inches. As a result, the Gran Turismo is surprisingly roomy and offer a real family-orientated versatility. With its sleek, confident three series front end look and a tight muscular side profile, the Gran Turismo looks sporty and business-like. For the 2017 model year, the Gran Turismo also receives new standard features like LED headlights, LED foglights and updated LED tail lights. To save fuel, the 3-Series GT comes standard with a start/stop system that cuts the engine at idle and a Brake Energy Regeneration that stores kinetic energy generated when the car is braking and uses it to power the electrical system whenever possible.
Interestingly, the Gran Turismo has the fitting of an active rear spoiler that rises automatically at speeds above 110 km/h. It can also be raised manually via a button in the driver compartment- a neat party trick at the stop light! The 2017 BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo also receives a more sophisticated feel with upgraded materials and accent trim. Extra chrome can be found around the bumpers and the windows, (depending on model) there is an updated, chrome exhaust tips, and available trim-specific 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels. The interior also has new bling in the form of chrome bezels for the air vents, seats with distinctive stitching and real wood accents. Various colors and leather trim variants are available to buyers. Insider, the driver-oriented dashboard is textbook 3 –Series with a neat, functional look. There is a 6.5-inch color display for the latest generation of BMW’s ConnectedDrive infotainment system, as well as Bluetooth and USB connectivity. ConnectedDrive enables directions with real-time traffic information, access surf the internet, change the climate control settings and radio stations. For Canada, there are three versions available in Canada: the Sport, Modern, and M Sport xDrive all-wheel drive models. Each model line has different exterior and interior trim. And yes! The M version does look the part with an aggressive front fascia and lower spoiler, rear diffuser, side skirts, M-specific wheels and firmer, lowered suspension. The M goodies can also include an M track-inspired steering wheel and a plethora of specific M trim pieces. M Sport buyers can order the GT in the excellent exclusive GT Estoril Blue paint. The 328i xDrive sedan starts at $46,200 and the 328i Touring at $45,700. Prices for the M version depend on options and the particular model chosen. Needless to say, the M version is not cheap! Also significant is the two new engines that join the existing lineup: a 241 hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit (255 lb-ft torque), and a 300 hp 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine, (300 lb-ft torque). Standard on all models is all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Trunk capacity is 520 liters, and the folding the three-way-split seatbacks go down with the press of a lever to increases cargo capacity to 1,600 liters, which is almost SUV-like in roominess! There is also a power hatch a low, flat floor, and a bed rail system with movable hooks for securing cargo. All 3-Series GT models come standard with dual front, front-side and full-length side curtain airbags in addition to traction and stability control systems and a tire-pressure monitoring system.
