$125,000 investment by CN helps moms and babies in childbirth at Burnaby Hospital

(Burnaby) – At a reception attended by Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan, hospital patrons, medical staff, and other dignitaries, CN announced on Tuesday that it is contributing $125,000 toward Burnaby Hospital Foundation’s Building Bright Futures campaign, for upgrades in the Maternity department.

“We are very pleased to make this contribution to a campaign that will touch the lives of new families across the region for so many years to come,” said David Radford, General Superintendent of Operations for CN. “CN has a long, proud history of giving back to our communities, places where we live and work, and we are thrilled to continue our tradition of supporting children’s health and wellness with this investment in Burnaby today.”

The funding will be a major boost to moms and babies in maternal care at the hospital, which serves expectant mothers managing low to high risk births, and welcomes around 1,800 newborns each year. The Building Bright Futures campaign will support development targeting three distinct areas that urgently require improvements; the Delivery Suite, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Postpartum Unit.

“This is great recognition by CN of our vital family and maternity programs,” said Burnaby Hospital Foundation Vice Chair, Russ Aunger. “Its legacy will be counted in the thousands of women and infants served by these upgrades. We can’t thank CN enough for their generous support – it’s a great testament to the community spirit of this iconic Canadian company, and proof that together with our friends and partners we can pave the way for a bright future in health care.”

Mayor Corrigan, who provided introductory remarks at the reception, also acknowledged the significance of CN’s contribution, and the benefits the funding will represent for the aging facility. “Burnaby Hospital has been providing excellent health care in our community for over 65 years,” he noted in a statement. “These upgrades to the maternity department will ensure Burnaby families continue to receive the best family-centred care possible. I’m pleased to recognize CN’s contribution in making this project possible for our citizens throughout the region.”
